WHO WE ARE:
Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language.
Position Summary
The DO Owiichiitaso (Family Keepers Helpers) is a full-time position and will work in administration and frontline fields, as assigned to assist DO. Since the DO carry out many aspects within the MDK service model of KIDO, there is documentation required to record this information, contact notes and home visits with Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach (people who will want help). The DO Owiichiitaso will assist with the documentation and administrative duties required to create these records, as well as other assigned duties such as meeting with dibenjikewinan of KIDO MDK files.
DO Owiichiitaso will carry out the KIDO mission, become trained as required to fulfill their responsibilities. The hours of work for this position are regular office hours for their office location, with flexibility required at times during emergencies/crises. They will report to their assigned DO, and at times will receive direction from their department managing DO Onaakatawapajike (Supervisor)
Duties & Responsibilities
- Approach all their work based on love and compassion and remain professional.
- Will work directly with assigned DO to assist with the documentation required to ensure MDK services provided are recorded in an acceptable way. This may include working with more than one DO, depending on availability of other DO Owiichiitaso and/or MDK office administration staff.
- Demonstrate teamwork alongside other DO and other KIDO employees to work in a productive environment carrying out assigned duties.
- Identify resource workers of other KI and external bimoojikewinan egwa wiijihiiwewinan (Program and Services) to provide the support and help required.
- Understand KIDO Emergency Services Unit (“ESU”) operations and how to contact/document information necessary for completing any assigned work.
- Follow protocols and policies regarding other CAS’ and service providers on information sharing and procedures, ensuring dibenjikewinan are kept informed.
- Become familiar with MDK services provided to dibenjikewinan and become familiar with resources and general guidance when their assigned DO is not available, providing frontline tasks such as home visits, contacting dibenjikewin, and other duties.
- Assist DO providing technical resources and general guidance for dibenjikewin in need of information to address any self-reported danendamihiiwenan, including connecting with Minoyaawibimoojikewinan (Prevention) Unit.
- Work with the KIDO MDK Database regularly to assist DO with inputting and providing file updates as required.
- Participate and complete DO training as required by KIDO, and provided by the KIDO Training Department, including MDK database training.
- Understand the traumas of the dibenjikewin to address, and ensure dibenjikewinan have access to traditional and spiritual bimoojikewinan egwa wiijihiiwewinan to deal with root causes of their issues, with guidance provided from DO.
- Travel as required for training and other KIDO operational needs.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by DO, with direction at times from department managing DO Onaakatawapajike
Qualifications
- Work experience of at least one (1) year with a proven ability to perform duties in the awaashish, oshkaadiz, and dibenjikewin bimoojikewinan egwa wiijihiiwewinan (child, youth and family programs and services) is an asset.
- Completion of high school, a two (2) year community college diploma in social services or administration, university bachelor’s degree and/or other education is an asset.
- Have an interest in learning new skills and upgrading educational level.
- Working knowledge of KIDO Vision, Mission, and Principles; and MDK Service Model.
- Experience working with the community of KI and understanding of the history of KI, including the traditional culture and the impacts colonization has had on the community is an asset.
- Must have good verbal and written communication skills, with being able to communicate in the KI Anishininiimowin language an asset.
- Must have good organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and in a team are essential.
- Must have good computer literacy and typing skills with the ability to develop further; familiarity with computerized data systems is an asset.
- Must be able to demonstrate professional integrity and maintain confidentiality.
- Must be able to manage time for assigned duties and be flexible for work at times.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check, with a Vulnerable Sector Check, is required.
- Ability to travel as necessary for work and training, across KIDO locations to KI, Sioux Lookout, and Thunder Bay, and other places.
