WHO WE ARE:

Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language.

Position Summary

The Kanawendaakosowinik Clerk (Place of Safety Clerk) – KI is a full-time position and is based in KI. This is a dedicated position to the Kanawendaakosowinik (Place of Safety) operations of KIDO and is a part of the office administration of KIDO. 

The Kanawendaakosowinik Clerk will assist with the administrative and filing work required for the KIDO-operated and KIDO-approved Kanawendaakosowinik, including information on Odoobikihaawasook (foster parents), Kanawenimaawasowinik (foster homes), KIDO employees working in KIDO-operated Kanawendaakosowinik, DO Kanawendaakosowinik, and any other related duties, such as answering phone calls, taking applications, providing coverage on a temporary basis, and other duties and responsibilities assigned below.

This position will receive direction and report to DO Onaakatawapajike: Kanawendaakosowinik – KI, and will need to work under office guidelines of KIDO Office Manager – KI.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Must approach all their work based on love and compassion; and remain professional and set aside personal issues, keeping an open mind and not be judgmental. 
  • Must be on time and maintain good attendance.
  • Develop and maintain Kanawendaakosowinik filing system and have forms ready on-hand. 
  • Answer and relay phone calls that come into KIDO Kanawendaakosowinik operations, which may be from KIDO employees OR applications to KIDO as Odoobikihaawaso.  
  • To provide administrative support to KIDO employees working in Kanawendaakosowinik operations, as well as other KIDO Office Clerk(s) and the Office Manager – KI when required, including preparing hard copies and electronic copies of required correspondence.
  • To ensure equipment at workstation is in working order and report to supervisor if not. 
  • To monitor office supplies in the administration area and replenish as needed, this includes regularly used supplies such as paper and toner on photocopier machines.
  • Complete reporting and office administration documentation at the end of the workday.
  • Work as a team alongside other KIDO staff showing respect.
  • Abide by all applicable KIDO policies and procedures and participate in required training.
  • Other duties & responsibilities assigned by Office Manager (KI) and KIDO Asst. Dir. – KI.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or a combination of education and work experience is preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in office administration is an asset.
  • Must be professional and adhere to confidentiality requirements. 
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, and good verbal skills in Anishininiimowin, the language of KI.
  • Must be able to work in a team setting and to multi-task when required.
  • Must reliable and punctual for attendance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook, with an interest in learning new skills, for which on the job training will be provided.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of KI’s distinct culture, traditions, values and principles.
  • Working knowledge of KIDO and MDK services, with training to be provided.
  • Ability to manage time of assigned duties and ability to work flexible hours on occasion. 
  • A Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Ability to travel as required for KIDO operations/training.
