WHO WE ARE:

Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

VISION STATEMENT:

To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language.

Position Summary

Reporting to “KI6” and overseeing and assisting with the coordinating of the Dibenjikewin Oganawenjikeg Opimojiketamaakeg (DOO). The DOO Board Liaison is responsible to ensure DOO is function and meeting its mandate.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the Mamow Special Projects Coordinator to receive intensive training on MDK Service Model and KIDO (“train the training coordinator”) to fully understand the scope of the DOO’s terms of Reference. 
  • To ensure the DOO meets at least six times per year and provides monthly updates and one annual written report to Chief & Council. This entails scheduling the meetings, booking the space, providing food & coffee, setting the agenda, preparing necessary printed materials and assisting with the preparation of the monthly updates and the annual written report. 
  • To attend board meetings and take minutes. 
  • To assist with ensuring DOO board members positions are filled if a position becomes vacant. Notify Chief and Council of the vacancy, so they can appoint a subsequent member. 
  • Liaise with DOO members if they have questions or concerns with technology, etc.
  • Ensure DOO members are properly compensated for their time. 
  • To request reports from KI program and assist DOO in overseeing them in attempts to silo-bust.
  • To develop a plan for DOO to become responsible for overall governance and oversight of KI Programs listed in KIDO. 
  • To develop relationship with all external agencies who provide services to KI awaashish/oshkaadiz and dibenjikewin to ensure they are in compliance with KI Onajikewinik Bimoojikewinik. 
  • To develop services to promote healing and reconciliation in KI.
  • To assist DOO with the creation of various policies (privacy, communication, HR, etc.)
  • To assist DOO with their financial responsibilities outlined in KIDO.
  • To assist DOO with oversight of the Kitchi-iishijikewinan Wiidamaakewin process. 
  • To perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by KI6. 
  • Must maintain confidentiality of workplace information and events. 

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of KI’s distinct culture, traditions, values and principles. 
  • Understand that KIDO is based on language and kayaash egwa mina ahchaako kikinohamaakewin (traditional and spiritual teachings) revitalization. 
  • Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is based on love, compassion, healing and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is part of the inherent right of KI. 
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the whole scope of KIDO, DOO’s Terms of Reference.
  • Ability to communicate/understand KI language, Anishinimowin.
  • Should possess previous work experience with the Child Welfare system.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Basic computer skills and proficient in Zoom and Microsoft Teams. 
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel is a definite asset (KI, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay).
  • Must submit clean Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
