WHO WE ARE:

Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

VISION STATEMENT:

To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language.

Position Summary

Oversee and assist with the coordination of the Dibenjikewin Oganawenjikeg Opimojiketamaakeg (DOO), the governing board of KIDO. The KIDO Liaison Coordinator is responsible to ensure that DOO is functioning and meeting its mandate under Section 7 of KIDO. Additional duties include providing Odoonendamaakeg, the Decision Makers of KI Dispute Resolution Process – “KIDR”, and Kichiihaak (Elders) with coordination support. This position reports to the KIDO Director.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To assist in developing a plan for DOO to become responsible for the overall governance and oversight of KI Programs listed in KIDO.
  • To assist DOO in updating and fulfilling its strategic work plan.
  • To identify services to promote healing and reconciliation in KI and collaborate with the Minoyaawibimoojikewinan (Prevention) Unit
  • To assist DOO with the review and development of various operational and service model policies.
  • To assist DOO with oversight of the Kitchi-iishijikewinan Wiidamaakewin (Serious Occurrence Report) process.
  • To assist DOO with financial responsibilities and ensure monthly expenditures are provided.
  • Assist DOO with oversight of program integration with KIDO which includes working with the KIDO Director, requesting reports from KI programs, and other service providers to KI.
  • Work with the KIDO Director and Senior Government Relations Representative to develop working relationships with external agencies/communities who provide services to KI awaashish/oshkaadiz and dibenjikewin to ensure they are in compliance with KI Onajikewinik Bimoojikewinik. (Protocol – written agreement)
  • To provide support to Kichiihaak and Odoonendamaakeg support staff as they are important helpers with dibenjikewin and in the KIDR process
  • To ensure the DOO meets at least six times per year and provides monthly updates and one annual written report to Chief & Council. This entails scheduling the meetings, booking the space, ensuring food & coffee is available, setting the agenda, preparing necessary printed materials and assisting with the preparation of the monthly updates and the annual written report.
  • To attend board meetings, take meeting minutes, do executive summaries and ensure DOO members receive their honoraria.
  • To assist with ensuring DOO board positions are filled. If a position becomes vacant, notify Chief and Council of the vacancy, so they can appoint a subsequent member(s).
  • Support and Liaise with DOO members if they have questions or concerns with technology, etc.
  • To work closely with the Training Unit to receive training on Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model of KIDO from training and fully understand the scope of the DOO, and the roles and responsibilities of Kichiihaak and Odoonendamaakeg.
  • Must maintain confidentiality of workplace information and events.
  • To travel to attend meetings and events of DOO, Odoonendamaakeg, and Kichiihaak.
  • Hours of work will be during regular KIDO office hours, but will require flexibility for meetings and events of the DOO, Odoonendamaakeg, and Kichiihaak as needed.
  • To perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by KIDO Director.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of KI’s distinct culture, traditions, values and principles.
  • Understand that KIDO is based on language and kayaash egwa mina ahchaako kikinohamaakewin (traditional and spiritual teachings) revitalization.
  • Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is based on love, compassion, healing and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is part of the inherent Miinikozowin of KI.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the whole scope of KIDO, DOO’s Terms of Reference, and the roles and responsibilities of Kichiihaak and Odoonendamaakeg.
  • Ability to communicate/understand KI language, Anishininiimowin.
  • Should possess previous work experience with the Child Welfare system.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Basic computer skills and proficient in Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel is a definite asset. (KI, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay and other meeting locations)
  • Must submit clean Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
