KIDO Services Liaison - Off-KI
WHO WE ARE:
Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language.
Position Summary
The KIDO Services Liaison – Off-KI is a full-time position based off of KI, with a preference for Thunder Bay. This is position involves working directly with awaashishag, oshkaadizag and dibenjikewin (children, youth and families) of KI as Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach (“people who will want help”). This means working with people/service providers for Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach, focusing off-KI, and regularly contacting:
- Other KIDO staff, including the the KIDO Services Liaison--KI, Dibenjikewin Oganawenjikeg (“DO”--Family Keepers) and the Emergency Services Unit (“ESU”) staff;
- Other social service providers for Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach off-KI in regions such as Thunder Bay and Sioux Lookout, including Indigenous, community and health supports, and other Children’s Aid Societies (CAS’);
- Healthcare and educational services off-KI, such as FNIHB (First Nations & Inuit Health Branch, hospitals, Jordan’s Principle, IFNA (Independent First Nations’ Alliance) education/health, and others;
- Other services in KI for coordination, such as Jordan’s Principle, Choose Life, KEA (Kitchenuhmaykoosib Education Authority), KMS (Minoyawin Services), and the KI nursing station; and
- Community members of KI that could assist with traditional and spiritual teachings
KIDO has the Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model and this position requires knowledge of KIDO’s MDK services in addition to all available services to Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach. This includes ensuring information is shared to KIDO staff and other service providers efficiently, by developing communication plans, tools and liaising whenever required. This position will also play an integral role in the integration of KI services with KIDO. Existing knowledge and experience is important to this position. This position will report to the KIDO Assistant Director – Off-KI and will also be in regular contact with the KIDO Director to provide updates on working relationships.
Duties & Responsibilities
- To receive intensive training on KIDO and its MDK Service Model and KIDO Protocols.
- Must maintain confidentiality of workplace information and events, and sign an Oath of Confidentiality form.
- Develop a database of services off-KI to best serve Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach when out of the community. This will require collaboration with other KIDO employees, KI departments, and others service providers, so information is up to date and each is aware of one another.
- Take the lead on collaborative events/gatherings and ensure that each takes into account the vision, mission and principles of KIDO; as well as communicating and respecting others that are both participating and assisting with the event/gathering.
- Attend Dibenjikewin Onajikewin (Family Meeting), when requested to help develop a plan based on knowledge of all available services and liaise as required with designated contacts.
- Attend case conferences on KIDO dibenjikewin files to provide guidance on navigating services available for Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach to other KIDO employees.
- Meet with KIDO Training Unit to provide information on developing a module and documents on service providers and relationship to KIDO MDK services to help train and keep all KIDO employees informed.
- Work with KIDO Liaison - KI on developing a system to work together on integrating services on KIDO dibenjikewin files and attending meetings as required. Will meet on a regular basis.
- Provide regular updates to KIDO Director and KIDO Assistant Directors on services available to Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach and identify any areas that should be developed/require more work, such as bringing in professionals for Kewiiwiijihiikoosiwaach or other locations.
- To travel to attend events and programming as required.
- Hours of work will be during regular KIDO office hours, but will require flexibility as needed.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by KIDO Director and Assistant Directors.
Qualifications
- Work experience of at least five (5) years with a proven ability to perform duties in the awaashish, oshkaadiz, and dibenjikewin bimoojikewinan egw, and family programs and services) is required, with experience in a management and/or community programming positiona wiijihiiwewinan (child, youth and family programs and services) is required, with experience in a management and/or community programming positions is an asset.
- Completion of high school, a two (2) year community college diploma in social services, university bachelor’s degree and/or other education is an asset.
- Have an interest in learning new skills and upgrading educational level, for which on the job training will be provided, to carry-out services to dibenjikewin, awaashish and oshkaadiz of KI.
- Working knowledge of the scope of KIDO, and its MDK Service Model.
- Working knowledge of the departments of KI and the support and services they offer.
- Working knowledge of service providers off-KI in many social and health sectors, and in KI.
- Exceptional ability to show love and compassion and treat people equally and with fairness.
- Demonstrated patience, humility, respect, consistency, discretion and maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated knowledge of KI’s distinct culture, traditions, values and principles.
- Understand that KIDO is based on language and kayaash egwa mina ahchaako kikinohamaakewin (traditional and spiritual teachings) revitalization.
- Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is based on love, compassion, healing and reconciliation.
- Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is part of the inherent right of KI.
- Ability to communicate/understand KI language, Anishininiimowin.
- Ability to travel is required, including to KI, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, and other locations.
- Must submit clean Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
