WHO WE ARE:

Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug Dibenjikewin Onaakonikewin (“KIDO”) is the KI FamilyLaw and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model carries out child and familyservices, but KIDO is much broader than mainstream services. It is specific to KI Nation and is animportant exercise of Miinikozowin (inherent power) by KI and aims to restore kayaash egwa miinaahchaako kikinohamaakewinan (traditional and spiritual teachings of KI).

VISION STATEMENT:

To reach a goal of a healthy self, healthy dibenjikewin (family), and a healthy community. Our ancestors held everything sacred and thanked Kishe-Manido (Creator) for all that had been given, including the foundation to guide a strong community composed of healthy dibenjikewinan(families) who are raising awaashishag (children) and/or oshkaadizag (youth) grounded in their cultureand language.

Position Summary

The Trainer will be delivering training sessions and creating documents on KIDO and its Maamao Dibenjikewin Kanawaabajikewin (“MDK”) service model. They have a responsibility to become an expert on these subjects after receiving orientation and materials in order to work with existing and further develop new presentations, workshops and other training activities to enhance the skill level of the Dibenjikewin Oganawenjikeg Opimojiketamaakeg (“DOO”) Board, KIDO staff, Odoonendamaakeg (Decision Makers) of KIDR (KI Dispute Resolution), KI Chief & Council, other KI leadership, KI Administration staff, community members and external service providers. The trainer will report to and be responsible to the Training Coordinator.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To work closely with the Mamow Special Projects Coordinator to receive intensive training on MDK Service Model and KIDO (“train the trainer”).
  • To assist with the presentation on MDK Service Model and KIDO training material to: the DOO Board, KI leadership, KI staff, and MDK staff (DO, frontline workers, emergency unit team, Okomimaak (grandmothers) and Omishoomimaak (grandfathers), external service providers etc.).
  • To assist with the presentation on MDK Service Model and KIDO to KI community members and KI school children.
  • To perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by KI’s negotiation and implementation KIDO team.
  • To maintain confidentiality while carrying out tasks, and sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
  • Other duties as required to fulfill the position summary objectives.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of KI’s distinct culture, traditions, values and principles.
  • Understand that KIDO is based on language and kayaash egwa mina ahchaako kikinohamaakewin (traditional and spiritual teachings) revitalization.
  • Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is based on love, compassion, healing and reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated understanding that KIDO is part of the inherent right of KI.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of the whole scope of KIDO and MDK Service Model.
  • Ability to communicate and understand the Anishininiimowin language of KI is essential, due to the need to reach out to, speak with and receive responses from everyone who requires training.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in adult learning theory and practice.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Basic computer skills and proficient in Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
  • Ability to manually operate varied audio-visual equipment.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to travel is a definite asset. (KI, Sioux Lookout, Thunder Bay, and other locations as needed)
  • Would be an asset to have previous experience in child welfare database system.
  • Must submit clean Criminal Records and Vulnerable Sector Checks.
